Got questions? Good. That means you’re thinking.

Here are a few of the things folks usually ask before they grab an e-bike and head out.

  • Pete and Ollie’s E-Rides is a local e-bike rental business based in Vallonia, Indiana. We take the hard part out of ridin’ a bike.

  • An e-bike is a bicycle with a little extra pep in its step. You still pedal, but the motor gives you a helpful boost. Think of it as having a tailwind you didn’t have to pray for.

  • Not even a little. If you can ride a regular bicycle, there’s a good chance you can ride an e-bike. These things are made for fun, not suffering.

  • Our standard rental rate is $55 per day unless otherwise posted. That’s a whole lot cheaper than buying one, and a whole lot more fun than sitting at home wondering what you should’ve done that day.

  • A day rental starts at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and ends at 9:00 a.m. the following day. We know that sounds a little specific, but that’s how Pete and Ollie like to keep the wheels turning.

  • Your rental may include the e-bike, battery, charger if needed, and basic safety equipment or accessories depending on availability. Details will be provided at pickup.

  • We sure recommend it. Showing up without a reservation might work out, but it also might end with us giving you an apologetic look and a shrug.

  • Riders must be 18 years old to rent and operate an e-bike. Minors who are 16 years and older may ride with a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the liability release. Pete and Ollie’s reserve the right to refuse rental to anyone based on our determination of their ability to ride and care for our stuff.

  • You’ll need a valid photo ID to rent. No, you do not need a commercial pilot’s license, boating permit, or anything fancy like that.

  • Yes. There will be paperwork. We know. Nobody gets excited about that part. But before you go flying down the road grinning like a kid, we do need a signed rental agreement and waiver.

  • Possibly, but every rider has to complete the required paperwork before taking off. We like surprises, just not legal ones.

  • We’re based in Vallonia, Indiana. Around here, that means you’re never too far from a nice road, some fresh air, and probably somebody who knows your cousin.

  • You can ride on approved roads, trails, and other bicycle-friendly areas. We’ll be happy to point you toward some scenic local spots so you can spend less time guessing and more time riding.

  • That depends on a few things — rider size, terrain, assist level, wind, and whether you spend the whole ride pretending you’re in the Indy 500. We’ll give you a realistic idea of range before you head out.

  • First, we’d prefer that not happen. Second, we’ll help you understand the bike’s range before you leave. If you ignore all common sense and ride like you’re fleeing the law, you may end up pedaling more than planned.

  • Please try not to. Renters are responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear. In other words, a little dust is one thing; launching it into a ditch is another.

  • Then Pete and Ollie will be very disappointed. Also, the renter is responsible for the bike until it is returned, and additional charges may apply as explained in the rental agreement.

  • We get it — Indiana weather can act like it has no supervision. If the weather turns bad, contact us and we’ll work through rescheduling options when possible.

  • This depends on the vehicle and the situation. Contact us ahead of time if you plan to transport the e-bike yourself.

  • We strongly recommend them, because looking cool is great, but protecting your noggin is better. Helmet requirements may also depend on age and applicable rules.

  • That’s the plan. We want booking to be simple, quick, and a whole lot easier than chasing somebody down by phone.

  • Right now we’re focused on rentals, but we hope to grow into e-bike sales and service as the business grows. One step at a time — Pete and Ollie are ambitious, but they still believe in doing things right.

  • Then ask away. We’re happy to help. We’d rather answer your questions ahead of time than have you standing there looking confused in the parking lot.

  • Yes. Very. That’s kind of the whole point. They’re a blast to ride, easier than a regular bike on hills, and a great excuse to get outside without feeling like you joined a punishment program.
